The problem of how to conceptualise the relationship between agents and structures.
1) Agent-oriented theory
2) Structure-oriented theory
There should be a middle-ground!
How to solve this problem? (A. Wendt)
3) Structuration theory
- The constitution of agents and structures are independent
- Social structures are both the medium and the outcome of the practices.
- Why the agent-structure problem is so important? Does this help to understand and solve various problems occurred in the world ex: refugee flow, peacekeeping operation, conflict prevention, human trafficking, emergency response for the natural disaster, etc.?
What do you think? ;P
FYI, this is not the final hand-out, it is still in progress (especially Question part)!!
